Sunriver Arts & Culture

Oregon art & cultureWhether you were born here, are a recent transplant, or are just visiting for a weekend, you’re bound to agree that Central Oregon is one of the most beautiful places to live—but Oregon (and Sunriver) is more than just a “pretty face.” Our little stretch of paradise is home to a thriving and vital arts and culture movement, attracting artists of all genres, from quilt making to photography to painting and everything in between. In addition, the rich history of our region lends itself to some amazing historical museums; you may have to plan multiple trips to take it all in!

First Fridays

Nearly every city in America, large and small, offers some similar version of an art walk, and Central Oregon is no exception. Every first Friday of the month offers residents and visitors the opportunity to examine Sunriver, Oregon art at many different galleries in one night. Examine the wares of local artists as you leisurely stroll around downtown Bend or the Old Mills District.

DeWilde Art Glass

The art of stained glass making hasn’t changed much over the past centuries, and DeWilde’s establishment creates stunning custom pieces in all shapes and sizes. Buy a small piece and take it home in your carry-on, or have a large piece shipped; we don’t think you’re going to be able to leave the Old Mill District in Bend without purchasing something from this charming shop ask a keepsake to remind you of the amazing art in Oregon’s Sunriver area.

Deschutes History Museum

We’ve lived here our entire lives and still don’t know all there is to know about our home town, but fortunately we have this fascinating museum to visit as often as we like to learn about Oregon culture and history. Your trip to Sunriver will not be complete without stopping in the Old Reid School built in 1914 that is now the home to the Deschutes History Museum in Bend. Your children will be fascinated by the tales of the loggers and explorers who helped make Central Oregon what it is today.
