The Old Mill District of Bend

HomeBend, Oregon AttractionsThe Old Mill District of Bend

In the beginning, lumber was how we put our name on the map, as early pioneers mowed down trees and created large mills for transforming rough trees into much needed planks perfect for building homes in the burgeoning towns in Central Oregon. It was a tough life, but money was made and mills popped up all over the area. Sadly, many forests were stripped bare and the timber kings began to lose their crowns, leaving behind decaying buildings and equipment that was in danger of disappearing forever. Fortunately, Oregon people are a hardy and inventive bunch, and where most people saw rot and ruin, we saw the perfect opportunity to create the shopping, dining, and entertainment mecca now known as the Old Mill District!

Since construction began in the early 1990’s, the Old Mill District of Bend, Oregon has been the hub of social life for Central Oregon, with over 40 shops, 12 restaurants, and an amphitheater featuring every type of entertainment you can imagine. But it’s not just the mall itself that is special. Situated in the middle of a rugged wilderness with miles of hiking and biking trails, flowing rivers, and the breathtaking scenery that makes Oregon so special, the Old Mill District combines the sophisticated and the primitive and makes it work!

Featuring everything from American Eagle to Zumiez for the teens in your life, Gymboree to Wonderland Toy Shoppe for the young children, and Day Spas to Victoria’s Secret for the women who make your life the joy it is, the stores in the District are a great blend of popular and unique. Naked Winery features a tasting room, perfect for taking a break while your teens explore the mall. Shopping has never been so fun!

We live near the water, so it should be no surprise that our favorite restaurant in the Old Mill District of Bend, Oregon is Anthony’s at the Old Mill, which has the best local seafood and views from the dining room that may distract you from the food just a little! After finishing off your healthy seafood meal, you might want to head to Ben & Jerrys for a little sweet to signal to your stomach that the meal is definitely over!

The onsite Les Schwab Amphitheater offers musical entertainment during the summer months and has been named one of “America’s coolest music venues” by Travel & Leisure. Check out their website to see if any of your favorite bands are performing during your stay!
