Although Memorial Day has been celebrated for close to 200 years, it did not become a federal holiday until 1971, which unbelievably means not many people were able to enjoy a three-day weekend for a very long time. It also means it could actually be considered your duty to celebrate for all those who couldn’t (and still can’t today), which might lead you on a journey to Oregon and a three-day weekend you will never forget, especially when you choose our Oregon Memorial Day vacation rentals!
Remembering Your Way
As you make your first entrance into one of our Memorial Day vacation rentals, you may have that sense of déjà vu, even if you have never visited before, because these properties are designed to make you feel at home from the very first instant. They might bring back memories of Memorial Day weekends you may have spent with your own parents when you were just a child, making you happy to give your own children the same memories. Offering fully equipped kitchens that don’t just help save the budget but bring back the joy of cooking as you work together with your children, your spouse, or your best friend who is along for the ride this glorious three-day weekend! Sit at the dining room table with a cup of coffee and watch the ever-changing landscape shine in the morning hours or head out to the back porch with a glass of wine and ringside seats of Mother Nature’s best show—that sunset will change your life!
As you continue the tour of your home for the next few days, you can feel the warmth and welcoming that is inherent in each of our Oregon properties, revealed by plush sofas in the living areas and dining room tables that invite you to play games, build puzzles, or enjoy fresh baked cookies you prepared with your teen earlier in the day. State of the art televisions in the living rooms offer cable or satellite, allowing guests to binge watch their favorite shows or perhaps try to find something that commemorates the Memorial Day holiday! Watch your favorite movies about the unsung heroes of the day, including the classic, The Best Years of Our Lives, a film that hit the big screen back in 1946.
Outside, you will find wide decks with chairs, tables, and lounges, and barbecue grills on which you can have your own Memorial Day bash with your traveling partners. Play your favorite music on whole house sound systems, char your favorite meats, and revel in a day spent remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country we love so much. And after the last hot dog has been consumed, the final sip of ice-cold beer has been swallowed, and last notes of Jimmy Hendrix’ version of the Star-Spangled Banner fade away into the night, slipping between the cool sheets of our beds will give you the rest and relaxation you need to do it all over again on days two and three of your stay!
The pandemic has changed things throughout the world, so at this moment Memorial Day parades are not being planned, nor are fireworks celebrations being offered, but there are still things you can do to make your explorations extra fun! Enjoy an all-American breakfast of pancakes at The Original Pancake House located at 1025 SW Donovan Avenue in Bend. Take the kids to the playground at Fort Rock Park in Sunriver, have a picnic at the Besson Picnic Area in Bend, or strap on a backpack filled with snacks and water and spend your Memorial Day hiking along the Deschutes River Trail in Farewell Bend Park. Friends traveling together may want to spend some of their day at the Silver Moon Brewing Company, enjoying $3 pints as you laugh, tell stories, and blend in with the locals who are lucky enough to live here year-round; it is local’s night on Memorial Day in 2021, but they will welcome you just as they do the other 364 days of the year.
A Taste of Oregon
Our favorite part of any getaway is having the opportunity to sample the meals that are popular in the region we are visiting, and when you visit Oregon, these fine restaurants promise to tantalize your taste buds. The South Bend Bistro, located at the Village in Sunriver, features our favorite bistro fare and some of the best cocktails we have ever tasted, and when we are in the mood for something Italian, Marcello’s Cucina Italiano in Sunriver is the only place we want to be! All-American burgers can be enjoyed at Big Belly’s Burgers and Brew, and the Fold Kitchen has the best pizza in the region.
