If you look very carefully you can just see the start of our favorite fall holiday starting to make its presence known in spite of the heat and humidity out there! Fall clothing in shades of rust and gold is taking the place of the brightly colored and barely there summer styles, Halloween candies are filling the shelves, and the costumes can be found in the back of the stores. All Hallows Eve is just around the corner, and if you’re planning an October trip to Stowe, here are some Sunriver events you can attend during your stay!
Halloween in the Village, 57100 Beaver Drive
At Halloween, there’s good scary and bad scary. Good scary is visiting haunted houses, wearing your best bloody zombie costumes, and convincing your best friend that it was a real “live” ghost you saw at the end of the street; bad scary is the fear that all parents have that something dangerous will happen to their kids when running the streets at night. Halloween in the Village eliminates the bad scary, allowing kids to trick or treat in a safe environment, take part in costume contests, play in a bounce house, and so much more Sunriver events! This free event is a local favorite, and when you participate, you’ll see why!
The Scaregrounds, 3800 Sw Airport Way, Parking Lot A, Redmond and Other Sunriver Events
For more of the good scary, you’ll want to get in your car and drive a little way to nearby Redmond and the frightfully fantastic Scaregrounds! This “haunted house” held at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds offers a different scare every year, and since they haven’t announced this year’s show yet, we CAN tell you that last year’s special effects and 3D renderings scared us silly! We can’t wait to see how they do it again.
Have a Spooky Good Time in Your Sunriver Pines Vacation Getaway
You don’t always have to go out to have a good time; some of our best Halloween memories were made at home, and when you stay in a Sunriver Pines vacation rental, you can experience your own spooky, yet magical Halloween night. Start the evening right with a pizza from Blondie’s Pizza, pour yourself some wine, enjoy our amenities and tune the television to an all-night scary movie marathon! We won’t judge you for going to sleep with all the lights on; scary movies freak us out, too! Reserve your Sunriver Pines getaway today—you deserve to be spoiled!
Whether you’re looking to explore the great outdoors or relax indoors with a great local brew, Sunriver has you covered! With a diverse array of activities and options available, it’s no wonder why Sunriver is the #1 stop for Oregon day trips in the great Pacific northwest!

The Sunriver area is incredibly well known for its amazing views and vistas, and if you’re looking to soak it all in as much as you can, we recommend spending your day hiking up Mount Bachelor! Featuring some of the most spectacular views of the surrounding Willamette and Deschutes National Forests, the view from the top is simply something that needs to be seen to be believed. So feel free to pack a lunch for a trail side picnic and spend a wonderful day on Mount Bachelor!
Spend a Quiet and Relaxing Day at Todd Lake
Truly one of the hidden gems of the Cascades, Todd Lake is small, well-hidden lake just north of Mount Bachelor that can help to provide a day trip that relaxing and majestic. The best part? There are no motorized boats allowed on Todd Lake! This means that you are guaranteed a quiet and true wilderness experience while you relax on the shores, fish, or kayak. There are few places more relaxing in all of the Sunriver area than Todd Lake.

As great as the great outdoors can be, there’s actually much more to our sleepy mountain vacation town than just hiking and adventuring! Sunriver, Oregon is known for its beautiful weather and amazing outdoor locations, but one thing that seems to get overlooked are the amazing holiday attractions. One of the most fun holidays around Sunriver is Halloween. Since the area is chock full of old historical buildings, there are plenty of ghost stories to go around. Take a look at just some of the amazing scary haunted attractions in Sunriver.
Des Chute Historical Museum
This historic museum was formerly a schoolhouse, and is believed to be haunted by the apparition of a man who passed away back in 1914. Known to staff as ‘George,’ he is responsible for moving objects around the building or making them disappear completely. Some also claim to have seen a misty white apparition drifting through the hallway after hours. There are many that have reported mystical events at the museum, but nothing concrete. Try out your stomach for the paranormal at this spooky location.
Haunted Attractions in Sunriver: Sparrow Bakery
This historic building was formerly the payroll office for the local ironworks, and is believed to be haunted. Staff here report hearing loud crashes coming from the rear of the store, but upon investigating, find nothing has been moved. The doors open and close by themselves, and a worker swore she heard ghostly laughter coming from the back room. The baked goods are amazing, but the paranormal activity is to die for!
On the top floor of the O’Kane Building, people have reported seeing weird lights from outside the building, hearing voices, and seeing smoke when there is no one around. In the restaurant, the ghost of a waitress can be heard shouting orders, while the apparition of an old man haunts the basement. This interesting building is the home to many different ghost stories, all more terrifying than the last.
New Redmond Hotel
The New Redmond Hotel is a historic building from the area that is home to many spooky stories. At this hotel, an apparition of a woman has been seen, strange orbs have shown up in photographs, and a strange presence has been felt by guests in the middle of the night. Disembodied footsteps can also be heard in the halls. These footsteps are heard throughout the hotel and give everyone who stays a good scare. These are just some of the amazing stories of the New Redmond Hotel.
