Sadly, we can’t all take one vacation per month. So, if you only get one or two chances to get away each year, it’s important to make them count! Sunriver is a beautiful place, but there are certain times of year where you’ll get the most enjoyment out of your stay. When is the best time to visit Sunriver? It depends on what you want to do!
Sunriver Summer Activities
Summers are fantastic in Sunriver. The temperatures climb just high enough to make private pools and passes to the SHARC (Sunriver Homeowners’ Aquatic and Recreation Center) worth it, but are never suffocating. With high temperatures never climbing above ninety degrees, you won’t even need air conditioning!
Summer is perhaps the best time to come to Sunriver, as it’s the best time to enjoy the outdoors. Kayaking down the Deschutes River, hiking the many central Oregon trails, and walking around the Village or downtown Bend are just a few of the great Sunriver summer activities in which you can get out and explore the area. Bring or rent a bike, as many of the trails are perfect for cycling. Plus, Mount Bachelor is just as lovely in summer, with scenic chair lifts, disc golf, and mountain biking!
Sunriver Winter Activities
Speaking of Mount Bachelor, this fantastic ski area is a major attraction during the winter months—January especially. Fresh powder is perfect for skiing and snowboarding. Or, walk through the stark, beautiful winter environment on a snowshoe trail! If you’re looking for something different, some companies offer sled dog rides and helicopter rides! Sunriver winter activities make us very popular during the cold months!
For those who get their vacations in fall, we recommend late October to mid-November for the best time to come to central Oregon. These are the weeks when the leaves of the deciduous trees are the most vibrantly colored. Hiking rewards with special views this season, as the acres of evergreens clash magnificently with the fiery hues of other trees. Temperatures drop quickly during these weeks though, so aim for October if you can—and maybe celebrate Halloween Sunriver-style!
All this being said, vacation homes in Sunriver are competitively priced, and sometimes the best motivation for a vacation is a great deal! Check Sunriver Pines’ website frequently to stay up-to-date on the best offers, such as getting an extra night for free!
