Getting Around Sunriver – Sunriver Shuttle & Transportation

It can be tempting to stay all day in your vacation home, but, after two days of sleeping in, watching TV, reading, or whatever you please, you may feel the call of the outdoors—or at the very least, the grocery store. So, how do you get from point A to point B while you’re in Sunriver? While enlisting a Sunriver shuttle service is an option, there are other choices, too. Learn all about local transportation here!

Renting a Car

It’s always a cost to factor in when it comes to vacations: how much is the rental car? In Bend, you’ll have a few different companies to work with. Sunriver is less lucky; to get from Sunriver airport to the Sunriver Resort, you will likely need to hail a Sunriver taxi service or Uber/Lyft to get to your vacation home. Flying into the Redmond airport is a bit easier, as it has rental car services and also a Sunriver shuttle service. (The walk from the Sunriver Airport to the resort is under an hour, but only the most enthusiastic hikers would probably want to venture that with all their luggage!) Renting a car is recommended if you want to explore Central Oregon conveniently, but there are other options.

Bend Public Transit

The city of Bend enjoys a public transit system with a dozen different routes. The routes all reach into downtown Bend in the center of the city, then stretch out either north, east, south, or west. This means it’s easy to access downtown Bend from the outskirts of the city, but not so much to get from one end of the city to another. While the public transit means you don’t have to worry about parking, you do need to pay attention to scheduling—each route is different, but most stops only have a bus visit between once every half-hour to once every hour, depending on the route. If you want to explore the city, a rental car is perhaps a better option.

Cycling in Central Oregon

Taking a bike is easy in Bend, who received the Silver Bicycle Friendly Community Award from the League of American Bicyclists. Biking is safe and simple. That said, the city is spread out so that cycling isn’t the best option if you’re not staying near your destinations.

As for Sunriver, bikes are a splendid idea. Bikes make all of the great spots in the Sunriver area, such as the golf courses, observatory, and shopping village accessible with just a short ride through fine weather—and our weather’s almost always fine, with 300 days of sunlight per year!

That said, we encourage you to bring or rent a bike, as Central Oregon does have some spectacular places to go sight-cycling or mountain biking.
