Top Tips for Your Sunriver, Oregon Vacation

When you’re visiting a new place for the first time, there are a lot of things you need to know—so many that you might not remember to research all of them! Thankfully, the local guides at Sunriver Pines know the area inside and out and are happy to help you plan your visit. Here are a few pointers you should know to make your Sunriver, Oregon vacation the best it can be!

Getting to Sunriver

It can be a pretty significant drive to get to Sunriver—even the closest major cities are at least three hours away by car. Taking an airplane may be the best bet. Sunriver enjoys its own airport—not surprisingly, it’s pretty easy to get to anywhere in the city from the airport. But, don’t worry if your nearest airport doesn’t have a trip directly to Sunriver Airport—Redmond Airport in Redmond, Oregon is only about 45 minutes away from Sunriver.

Don’t Overlook SHARC

Sunriver Homeowner’s Aquatic and Recreation Center—known by the acronym SHARC—is perfect for vacation at any time of year, and frankly, it can be a daily trip for many families. Naturally, it’s popular in the summer for the water slides and lazy river. However, there’s plenty more to do there, including the town’s only disc golf course and Paulina Park, complete with a playground, rock-climbing wall, and picnic tables.

However, the SHARC is great at any time of year—the indoor pools are open year-round, and include shallow play areas for young swimmers, lap lanes, and hot tubs for adults. There’s even a place to grab some food—swimming does work up an appetite! Sunriver Pines’ complimentary pass to SHARC is a major selling point!

Visit Mount Bachelor

The other major attraction stands up tall just to the southwest. Mount Bachelor is best known as a ski area, but they offer other exciting winter options, including sled dog rides and helicopter rides. Visit in summer though, and you can enjoy entirely new scenery from the scenic chair lifts, plus disc golf and trails.

The Village Is All You Need

For a day out filled with eating, shopping, and having fun, The Village is the best place to go in Sunriver. The shopping center includes some great snack shops and lunch/dinner options, places for all sorts of souvenirs (especially clothes), and Alpine Entertainment—which offers bumper cars, miniature golf, and more! If you’re not sure how to spend your first day, we’d recommend starting here.
